Your opinion matters

My intentions of this blog are spelled out in the "About" link

NGRV school board made a motion at the regular meeting May 21 to have Pass negotiate with attorney Chris Burton a settlement for the purpose of separating employment with the superintendent and school district.

What do you think?

What will it take for the community to regroup?

Could the community ever support a bond?

What does the community think of the Chinese Immersion program?

Does the community think the immersion program will attract families to our area?

What do you think about the WIAA Reclassification?

WIAA Reclassification Video

This should be enough to get some discussions started, what is on your mind and important to you?

  1. In answer to the queries above:

I think Mr. Fletcher is understandably upset about some things based on the fact that he appears to have been fed false information. Where did the financial data come from about Mr. Tienhaara and Mr. Pass saving a third of the teacher's jobs? Has anyone ever seen a clear accounting of whether or not CVA has even made any money? Is is losing money? No one seems to know. The levy was raised $90,000 a year. Where is that going?

I think top leadership will have to be replaced with people that actually care about what subordinates and community members think. We have the best teachers around, let's support them. It was the teachers and students that earned the Blue Ribbon School distinction, before Mr. Pass even came to Naselle.

The community will support a bond when they feel the money they already give to the school is properly managed and accounted for. They also want to see a bond that includes what is needed, not just what is wanted.

There is a real split on the Chinese immersion program. It might be good, and it might not. It would work better in a larger school system. If you had 100 kindergarteners, you might get 25 parents who want immersion. No problem, you have 4 kindergartens, one with immersion and three without. In Naselle, you might have 25 kindergarteners. Do you have two classes all day for 25 kids when the state doesn't even pay for one? Does the grant fully offset this? For how long? Then what? There are many questions that should have been asked, and answered before we jumped into this one.

I think that the idea of people moving here for Chinese immersion is a fantasy.

I think we probably need to go independent and then play tournaments at 1B. We need to keep the kids safe, and yet be able to play our traditional rivals in league. This would allow for all that.

Let's get back to folks treating each other with respect, starting at the top. Let's get back to honesty. Let's get back to putting the kids first, and not just as rhetoric. Let's be thankful for what we do have, and not focus on what is wrong so much. We have great teachers and kids. We have supportive parents. We have a great lunch program. We have community members who care. We have awesome support staff.

    Go Comets,
    Sincerely,
    Orbital

  2. Just like C-Span. Should zoom in on the name tags a little more since is hard to read them. Would also be helpful if people speaking to the board would identify themselves. Awesome.
